Stump Removal

Stump Grinding

Stump grinding involves a special piece of equipment that physically grinds the stump and any large surface roots into sawdust to a depth of approximately 4″. After grinding, sawdust fills the resulting hole, which can be replaced with soil for replanting grass or plants. New trees require planting several feet away from the original spot. This is the recommended stump removal method.

Stump Excavation

Excavation removes the entire stump and root plate using backhoe equipment for large stumps, likely causing landscape or utility damage. Cost for this service is cumulative of backhoe service, hauling away the stump, fill soil and repairs to the landscape.

Can a tree be saved instead of removed?

Sometimes, yes. Our arborists always evaluate whether a tree can be preserved through pruning, cabling, bracing, or health treatments before recommending removal. What happens to the wood after removal?

All brush and limbs are chipped on site and recycled into mulch through our composting program. Trunk wood is hauled to our yard for processing. We recycle 100 percent of the material from every removal — nothing goes to a landfill. If you would like to keep firewood-length sections of the trunk, let us know during the estimate and we will set them aside for you.
